Rev. Willie Maddox, Sr.
Reverend Willie Adolphus Maddox, Sr., 87, of 402 Mt. Sinai Church Road,
Shelby, NC, was born on December 20, 1924 the eldest child of the late James H.
Maddox and Gertrude Y. Maddox. He departed this life here on March 19,
2012 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center, in Shelby.
Rev. Maddox gave his life to Christ at an early age and joined Shoal Creek
Baptist Church. There he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon
and Associate Minister. He also served as Treasurer of the Ebenezer
Association for approximately twenty years. Rev. Maddox was a graduate of
Gardner-Webb University, Cleveland Technical College and Southern Business
College. He also served in the United States Navy during World War II and
was a member of the Tryon Masonic Lodge #8 in Shelby for 61 years. Rev.
Maddox retired after serving as the pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church for 23
years.
Rev. Maddox was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Pecola Mintz Maddox
daughter ,Veronica Lynn Maddox; a granddaughter, Mioshi Maddox and three
siblings. He is survived by five children; daughter, Aundra M. Adams (George),
and sons Willie A. Maddox, Jr. (Barbara) of Greensboro, NC, Caesar B.
Maddox (Charlene) and Michael A. Maddox both of Shelby, NC, and Jean M. Maddox (Oranda)
of Salisbury, NC; three sisters; Annie Parker (James) of Shelby, Lillie DeGree
(Melvin) of Reston, VA, and Dorothy Upshaw (Tony) of Mattapan, MA; five
brothers, James Maddox, Jr. (Claudine), John Maddox, Sr., Franklin Maddox
(Margie), Joseph Maddox (Carolyn) all of Shelby, and Henry Maddox (Doris) of
Franklin, MA; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; 10 great
great-grandchildren; two aunts, Ruby Cline (Talmadge) of Shelby and Naomi Coates
(Joe) of Detroit, MI; one uncle, Alphonzo Young of New Jersey; special
caregiver, Christine Oglesby (Helping Hands) and a host of nieces, nephews,
relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., at Shoal
Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.
on Saturday at Shoal Creek Baptist Church and at other times at the home.
Pastor Michael Isaac will officiate and Pastor Billy Houze will perform the
eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemeteryEnloe Mortuary is in
