Mrs. Barbara Jean "Jeanie" Ross McClain, of 813 W. Warren Street, departed this life on Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at home.
She was born March 19, 1955, in Shelby, to the late Johnny and Christine Ross Johnson. She was a faithful member of Shiloh A.M.E. Zion Church in Grover, where she was a member of the missionary department, stewardess board and the birthday committee. Barbara "Jeanie" loved her church and her church family. She was also a devoted wife and mother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Hartgrove and Jacqueline Hartgrove; one brother, Albert "Bo Peep" Ross; and grandparents, Randolph and Eliza Leach Ross and Jim and Lizzy Johnson.
She leaves to cherish fond memories of her, her husband of 28 years, Donnie McClain; one daughter, Donesha McClain of Shelby; one son, Darius Ross of Kings Mountain; three grandchildren, Shazuita Ross, Tempsett Holland and Neil Chambers; one goddaughter, Sasha Reid; one sister, Fonda Ross Houze (Rev. John Houze) of Kings Mountain; five brothers, Leon Ross of Shelby (Winnie Jane) of Blacksburg, S.C., Dave Hargrove (Michelle) of Grover, Michael Johnson (Carolyn) and Bobby Johnson, both of Shelby and Eddie Johnson of Miami, Fla.; her mother-in-law, Ida McClain of Shelby; seven aunts, Marveta McCoy, Josephine Leach, Vivian Jones and Polly Benn, all of Norwalk, Conn., Dorothy Walker of Washington, D.C. , Lucy Gamble and Polly Caldwell, both of Kings Mountain; one uncle, Bobby Joe Ross of Norwalk; five sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral: Saturday, Feb. 14, 2 p.m., Peoples Baptist Church
Visitation: The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service, at the church.
Burial: Shiloh A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery
